Gov. Kevin Stitt signed a new bill into law that makes abortion a felony. Under this bill, anyone convicted of performing an abortion could face up to 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine, but it does not authorize criminal charges against the woman receiving an abortion. This is a growing trend among most Republican-led states across the Nation.
The Issue of Abortion rights has been on the lime lights for a couple of months now and more people are getting enraged by the aggressive push of making it illegal in most republican states. Abortion rights advocates say the bill signed by the GOP governor is certain to face a legal challenge.
“strongest pro-life legislation in the country right now, which effectively eliminates abortion in Oklahoma.” Sen. Nathan Dahm said.
The bill, which takes effect 90 days after the Legislature adjourns next month in Oklahoma; While In Texas a similar law is in effect and even went further to empower private citizens the right to enforce it with $10,000 bounty to anyone who successfully brings a lawsuit against a provider.
