The California Highway Patrol said they arrested a 61-year-old Newark man who allegedly yelled racist insults at another driver and tried to hit their car on Interstate 880 in Oakland earlier this week.
The CHP said the incident happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday on southbound I-880 near Hegenberger Road and was caught on video and posted online.
The video, taken from the victim’s car, shows a man in a Jeep Wrangler screaming racial slurs at the victim. The man in the Jeep then seems to attempt to crash into the victim’s car, but he loses control and hits a wall on the right side of the highway.
The CHP said no one was injured.
With the help of the Golden Gate Division Special Investigations Unit, officers from the CHP Oakland area office identified the man in the Jeep as Tracy Robert Blackwell, the CHP said.
The CHP said the man was arrested on Friday and taken to Alameda County jail, where he faces charges of hate crime and assault with a deadly weapon.
