Officials said a Florida man lost his arm after a 10-foot alligator bit him near a pond outside a bar over the weekend.

The incident happened early Sunday morning behind Banditos Bar in Port Charlotte, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Charlotte County Fire and EMS spokesman Todd Dunn said the 23-year-old man was flown to Gulf Coast Hospital in Fort Myers, where doctors amputated his arm.

The man, who was later named as Jordan Rivera, told WBBH-TV from his hospital bed on Monday that he was glad to be alive despite losing an arm.
