Ukraine’s general prosecutor’s office says 483 children have died and almost 1,000 have been injured in the war with Russia.
UNICEF also says about 1.5 million Ukrainian children may suffer from mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD and others, with long-term consequences.
The National Social Service of Ukraine says nearly 1,500 Ukrainian children have lost their parents.
Most of the child casualties are from Donetsk, where many battles have taken place. Ukrainian officials say 462 children have been killed or wounded there.
This number does not include casualties from Mariupol, a city in Donetsk province that Russia occupies. Ukrainian officials have had trouble counting the dead and wounded there
