One person died and five others were hurt in Cairo on Thursday when a billboard fell on a car and a motorbike during a sandstorm.

The sandstorm turned the sky orange and brought strong winds to the city of over 20 million people.

The winds also forced the closure of two ports along the Suez Canal, where 10% of the world’s trade passes. The waves were more than four metres high and the wind speed was more than 50km per hour.

The health ministry told people to wear masks and stay indoors as much as possible.
