Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder and leader of the Wagner Group, a private military company that operates in various conflict zones, has accused the Russian Ministry of Defense of planting landmines and explosives on the route of his fighters’ withdrawal from Bakhmut, a town in eastern Ukraine.
Prigozhin claimed that the mines were not intended to deter the Ukrainian army, but to harm his own men, who had been fighting for months against the Ukrainian forces.
He said that he had evidence of the sabotage and that he would file a complaint with the Russian authorities.
Prigozhin’s allegations have added fuel to the fire of his ongoing feud with the Russian military leadership, whom he has criticized for not providing enough support and ammunition to his mercenaries.
