A Portsmouth man got two years in prison today for his part in a scam that cheated Medicare out of over $1 million in prescription drug benefits.

Court documents show that Ronald A. Beasley II, 33, was the head pharmacist at NH Pharma, a pharmacy in Lake Mary, Florida.

He and his co-conspirators charged Medicare for costly compound drug creams that they never bought or gave to Medicare patients. Instead, they gave them a cheap compound drug cream that Medicare did not pay for.

NH Pharma did not have enough of the pricey drugs to make all the prescriptions they billed to Medicare. Beasley and his co-conspirators pocketed more than $1 million in fake Medicare payments.
