North Dakota governor Doug Burgum announced his Republican presidential bid on Wednesday, saying he wants to bring his successful business and leadership experience to the White House.

Burgum, who has been governor since 2016, is a former software executive and philanthropist who has championed economic development, innovation and education in his state.

He said he is running for president to restore trust in government, revitalize the economy and protect American values.

“I believe our country needs a leader who can bridge the partisan divide, who can solve complex problems with common sense solutions, and who can inspire a new generation of Americans to embrace the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century,” Burgum said in a statement. “I have proven that I can do that in North Dakota, and I am ready to do that for our nation.”
