A 19-year-old man was arrested for shooting and killing two men and wounding five others in a Richmond park yesterday, police said.
The shooting happened near the Altria Theater on Virginia Commonwealth University’s campus, where high school graduates and their families had just attended commencement ceremonies.
The victims were an 18-year-old man and a 36-year-old man, who may have been father and son, according to a local TV report. Police did not confirm their relationship.
A 31-year-old man was critically wounded and four others, aged 14 to 58, were also shot but expected to survive, police said.
A 9-year-old girl was hit by a car and several others were hurt or panicked in the aftermath of the shooting, police said.
Police said they planned to charge the suspect with two counts of second-degree murder and other possible crimes.
The motive for the shooting was still under investigation.
