On Thursday, a Russian citizen was killed in a shark attack in the resort of Hurghada on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, Egyptian and Russian authorities said.
According to the Egyptian Ministry of the Environment, the man was killed by a tiger shark in the waters near Hurghada. The authorities said.
A 74-kilometer stretch of coast until Sunday and announced a ban on swimming and other types of water activities.
The ministry also said it was able to capture the shark and is testing it in a lab to find possible causes for the rare attack.
Russian Consul General in Hurghada Viktor Voropaev confirmed to TASS that the victim of the shark was a Russian citizen, born in 1999 and permanently residing in Egypt.
