A Dallas County grand jury has indicted a former substitute teacher who allegedly allowed and encouraged students to fight in her classroom at Kimbrough Middle School in Mesquite, Texas.

Natally Garcia, 24, faces four counts of endangering a child for the incident that occurred on April 12, 2023. Video footage obtained by WFAA-TV shows Garcia moving desks to create more space for the fights, telling students not to record the fights and to guard the door, and watching as students threw punches at each other.

Garcia had been employed by the Mesquite Independent School District since March 6, 2023, but was fired and arrested after the district learned of the incident.

The district said it notified the parents of each student in the classroom and sent a letter to all parents expressing its disgust and regret over Garcia’s actions .
