The U.S. State Department has issued a level 2 travel advisory for the Dominican Republic, warning travelers to exercise increased caution due to crime.

The Caribbean nation has seen a rise in violent crime and sexual assault, especially in urban areas like Santo Domingo.

Travelers are advised to be aware of their surroundings, avoid displaying signs of wealth, and follow the advice of resort and tour operators.

The travel advisory was reissued with updates to health information on June 6, 2023.
