A police officer in Colorado shot and killed a 14-year-old boy on June 1 after a robbery at a convenience store.

The boy, Jor’Dell Richardson, was part of a group of teens who stole vaping cartridges from the store and fled. The officer chased Richardson and tackled him to the ground, where a struggle ensued.

The officer claimed that Richardson had a gun and fired one shot at his abdomen. However, it was later revealed that Richardson was only carrying a pellet gun that resembled a 9 mm handgun.

The police released body camera footage of the incident on June 10, which showed Richardson pleading for his life and saying that he was forced to participate in the robbery.

The shooting sparked outrage and protests in the community, as well as calls for justice and accountability for Richardson’s death.
