A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale hit the vicinity of Johannesburg causing widespread damage and panic in South Africa’s most densely populated province, according to the Unites States Geological Survey.
The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, was felt as far away as Pretoria and Durban.
No casualties have been reported so far, but authorities are assessing the extent of the impact on buildings and infrastructure.
