On Sunday (June 11), Russia and Ukraine said in near-simultaneous statements that they are exchanging about 100 troops each.
Ukraine also said it has regained control of two villages in Donetsk’s east.
At the same time, Russia’s Wagner group of mercenaries said it will not enter into any agreement with the Russian military.
After talks, 94 Russian troops “who faced deadly risk” are being freed, the Russian defense ministry said on Telegram, and they will be brought to medical facilities for check-up.
Andriy Yermak, the chief of Ukraine’s presidential administration, said the Russians had given back 95 Ukrainian soldiers. He also said that some of them had wounds and that national guard and border guard members were also among those who came back.
