Former Attorney General William Barr has expressed his shock and dismay at the indictment of former President Donald Trump on charges of fraud and tax evasion.

Barr, who served as Trump’s loyal ally during his tenure, told reporters that he was “stunned” by the allegations against his former boss. “If even half of it is true, then he’s toast,”

Barr said. “I never imagined he would do something like this.” Barr said he had no prior knowledge of Trump’s financial dealings and that he was not involved in any cover-up.

He said he hoped that the justice system would be fair and impartial in handling the case. “I respect the rule of law and I trust that the truth will come out,” Barr said. “But I’m deeply disappointed and saddened by what I’ve learned.”
