The Ukrainian government has announced that its forces have successfully retaken several villages in the Donetsk region from pro-Russian separatists.

The operation, which began on Monday, was part of a broader effort to restore control over the eastern border and secure a lasting ceasefire.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian troops encountered fierce resistance from the rebels, who used heavy weapons and mines to slow down their advance.

However, the statement claimed that the Ukrainian forces were able to overcome the obstacles and liberate the villages of Novolaspa, Starohnativka, and Hranitne.

The statement also said that the operation resulted in minimal casualties among the Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, while inflicting significant losses on the enemy.

The Ministry of Defense praised the professionalism and courage of the Ukrainian troops, and vowed to continue the offensive until all the occupied territories are freed.
