Former Vice President Mike Pence has changed his stance on the indictment of former President Donald Trump, who is accused of mishandling classified documents.
Pence told The Wall Street Journal that he “can’t defend what is alleged” and that the charges are “very serious”.
He said that Trump is entitled to a fair trial, but also stressed the importance of protecting national security and the safety of the armed forces.
Pence, who is running for president in 2024, suggested that politics may have influenced the decision to indict Trump, and called for more transparency from Attorney General Merrick Garland.
