Chinese-American singer-songwriter Coco Lee passed away on Sunday after a long battle with depression, her family confirmed on social media.

“We are heartbroken to share the most tragic news: CoCo had been struggling with mental health issues for a few years but her situation worsened significantly in the recent months,” her elder sisters Carol and Nancy Lee posted on Instagram this evening.

“CoCo sought professional help and tried hard to overcome depression, but unfortunately that monster inside of her won over her.”

They said that she died peacefully at home and was taken to hospital.

“Despite the best efforts of the hospital staff to revive and treat her from her coma, she left us on July 5, 2023.”

The Hong Kong-born star grew up in the United States and rose to fame in the music industry in the 1990s.
