On September 4, Putin and Erdoğan will meet in Sochi to talk about regional matters, according to Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
Bloomberg reported earlier that Erdoğan planned to visit Russia for the meeting. One of the topics on the agenda is the grain deal that Russia cancelled on July 17, citing unfulfilled obligations on fertilizer exports from Russia. After that, Russia launched attacks on southern Ukraine, damaging port facilities that were used for the grain trade.
Erdoğan says he wants to revive the deal in a “wider” format, and calls for Western countries to support the deal as a basis for peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
