A toddler and a woman died in a crash with a lorry ‘while broken down’ on a road in Lincolnshire.

Humberside Police rushed to the A180 where the white lorry travelling westbound collided with a stationary blue Ford Focus.

The incident happened between Stallingborough and Brocklesby, at about 9pm on Friday.

A 34-year-old woman and three-year-old boy were travelling in the Ford, which is believed to had broken down in a live lane of the carriageway.

The two sustained fatal injuries in the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their families have been informed and are currently being supported by specialist trained officers.

Witnesses believe their car was ‘stranded’ in the left hand lane at the time.

A woman told Grimsby Live she had to ‘swerve’ in the dark to avoid the car and called emergency services shortly before the crash.

Police are investigating the crash, and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

A statement said: ‘We are appealing for anyone who may have dash cam footage or who witnessed the collision to contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 557 of 10 March.’
